Though Battlefield 1942’s designers took certain liberties with historical accuracy in order to balance the maps, the informative blurbs before the start of each battle took me through the African, Pacific, and European campaigns of both sides with an attention to the narrative sequence. This the first game I played online.
Skip ahead four or five years, when I’ve moved beyond games with any value and into MMORPGs. Just when all hope of encountering a scrap of learning among the masses of sociopaths, currency farmers, and kids (of which I was one) seems gone…
